Description

The Heckler & Koch G3 rifle is a select fire, magazine fed weapon using the roller delayed blowback action. The G3 is built almost entirely out of metal stampings. The receiver is stamped from sheet steel. The trigger group along with the pistol grip frame are stamped from sheet metal and hinged to the receiver using a cross pin in the front of the trigger unit just behind the magazine housing. The stock furniture consists of a green ventilated polymer handguard and buttstock. The rear sight consists of a drum type rear diopter sight marked from 100 to 400 meters. The front sight is a hooded post. A folding cocking handle is located on the return spring housing tube above the barrel on the left side. The safety, fire selector lever is located above the trigger guard on the left side of the trigger group housing and usually is marked "S - E - F". The rifle has a detachable twenty shot staggered box magazine. The rifle has a worn grey phosphate finish. Markings - Iranian proof marks. S E F three position safety/fire indicator and Serial number 933.

The Heckler & Koch G3A3 battle rifle is used by insurgency forces in Iraq. This rifle was confiscated by Australian forces serving in Iraq in 2006.
