Minami Taiheiyô Shûhô dai 2 [South Pacific Weekly No.2].
Description
A propaganda newspaper produced by the Far Eastern Liaison Office (FELO) during the Second World War. The item is written in Japanese and was distributed to Papua and Guadalcanal. An English translation of the text is attached. This issue deals with the retreat from Guadalcanal and Buna, the defeat of Germany in Russia, the defeat of the Axis in North Africa, war finance in Japan and sea transport. The purpose of the material appears to be to raise doubts about the credibility and capacity of the military leaders among Japanese soldiers. For instance, it quotes General Tojo as saying that the Japanese retreated from Guadalcanal because it was no longer necessary to place troops there, and questions why then the Japanese defended it, causing the loss of 15 cruisers, 17 transport ships, 741 aircraft and 17,000 lives.
