Australian Army general purpose field first aid kit : Warrant Officer Class 2 A J N Dodds, Australian Army Training Team Vietnam
Australian packaged first aid kit consisting of a clear vinyl holder roll (565 mm x 130 mm) with 14 pockets each containing medical related equipment, housed in an outer green vinyl bag which is provided with a brass eyelet at the top of the bag (through which a brown shoelace has been tied) for tying the rolled kit. The outer bag has the following instructions printed in yellow: 'D^ D6545-66-019-9800 First Aid Kit, / General Purpose, Army Pattern, Combat D^D / (Note: This is an expendable outfit designed primarily for use in an infantry section. Other uses for it will be at discretion of officers authorising issues). The contents provide for the treatment of minor burns and wounds, abrasions, control of bleeding, treatment of pain and bowel infection./ Contents: 18 Assorted Elastic Plaster Dressings / 1 tube CETRAMIDE and CHLORHEXIDINE Anteseptic Cream / 2 Triangular Bandages / 2 Gauze Bandages 2 in. x 6 yd / 2 Gauze Bandages 3 in. x 6 yd / 1 oz. cotton wool / 2 Detergent impregnated cloths 3 in square / 2 tubes Compound Codeine tablets / 4 tubes Phthallysulphathiazole tablets.' Information following this gives notes on treatment of Minor wounds and Abrasions; Minor Burns; Control of Bleeding; Pain and Dysentry, followed by: 'NOTE: By compactly folding the holder in three and placing it with the individual / items at right angles to, and at the bottom of the bag, the desired shape of / the outfit namely 7 3/4 in x 5 1/2 in x 3 in, will be preserved.' The maker's details are printed under this. Actual contents of the roll are: one US-made field dressing: one plastic eyepatch, eight CODIS tablets and a roll of cloth dressing; a pack of cotton wool and a dressing hook; tube of Vioform antiseptic cream; one yellow cotton arm sling; a gauze bandage roll and collection of Disprin; gauze bandage roll and cloth dressing roll; tube of Dencorub; a number of Band-Aid strips; two plastic sealed Sanax detergent impregnated cloths; collection of older Band Aids; three black plastic tubes of Phthallysulphathiazole tablets - one empty.
Carried in the field by 51199 Warrant Officer 2 Andrew John N Dodds, Australian Army Training Team Vietnam, born Perth, Western Australia on 5 March 1931, and who served in Vietnam from 29 July 1970 to 29 July 1971. The contents of the kit suggest that he updated and also used it after his army service. Dodds had a long history of service, having served with the British Commonwealth Occupation Force (BCOF) in Japan and with 3 Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (3 RAR) in Korea from 28 September 1950 to 1 September 1951.
