Description

A propaganda newspaper produced by the Far Eastern Liaison Office (FELO) during the Second World War. The item is written in Japanese and was distributed to New Britain and New Ireland. An English translation of the text is attached. This leaflet is dated 8 January 1944 and include news of the sombre atmosphere of the New Year in wartime, Prime Minister Tojo's New Year speech, the situation in the Philippines, the Allied landing on New Britain, the capture of Walingai by Australian forces, the Allied air attacks on Japanese positions in New Ireland and New Britain, the sinking of Japanese warships and commercial ships off Kavieng and the situation about Japan's home defence. The war situation in Russia, Italy and Yugoslavia are also mentioned.
