Description
A propaganda newspaper produced by the Far Eastern Liaison Office (FELO) during the Second World War. This item is written in Japanese and was distributed to Huon Peninsula, New Britain and Bougainville. An English translation of the text is attached. This issue dated 1 February 1944 covers events such as the cancellation of the annual poetry reading ceremony due to the illness of the Emperor, the Spring session of Sumo wrestling, the 84th session of the Diet, the sinking of Japanese warships, the construction of a large airfield in Bougainville by the Allied Forces, the bombings of Rabaul and the defeat of the Japanese at Cape Gloucester and the Huon Peninsula. The situation in Europe is also briefly covered.
