Tôkô o unagasu chirashi [Preliminary Surrender Leaflet].
Description
Propaganda leaflet produced by the Far Eastern Liaison Office (FELO) and distributed to Japanese forces during the Second World War. This leaflet is designed to be used as a surrender leaflet by the Japanese forces and was targeted at Front lines generally with an indefinite date of distribution. The leaflet also discusses conditions of prisoner of war camps in Australia. The message stresses that there is no point in continuing the fight in such a hopeless situation. It includes a picture depicting "healthy" Japanese prisoners of war working in fields in camps in Australia. The back page has an English message stating that the holder has ceased resistance and should be treated in accordance with international law.
