Army biscuit with message
Description
Army issue biscuit, rectangular in shape, bearing the "S" brand of Swallows biscuits. Written in blue ink is the following letter: "Dear Nell, how would this do for standing the iron on. Would give anything for a dip in the old river or a trip in the boat. Fearfully hot here. Heaps of love from bro Les." At the top of the letter is "Heliopolis, Egypt, Aug. 6, 1915".
History / Summary
This biscuit was sent by an Australian soldier to his sister at home. Although reputed to have been sent home by a Ken Harwood the letter is signed Les. No listing of either a Ken or Les Harwood can be found on the embarkation roll.
