Studio portrait of 3071 Private William Lee, 10th Reinforcements, 6th Battalion, of Bungaree, Vic. A labourer prior to enlistment, he embarked from Melbourne, Vic on board RMS Osterley on 29 September 1915. He was later transferred to the 60th Battalion and promoted to Lance Corporal. L Cpl Lee was killed in action in Fromelles, France on 19 July 1916. He was 31 years of age. His brother, 3072 Private Thomas Albert Lee, who embarked with the same unit, was also serving in the 60th Battalion at the time and was wounded on the same day. He returned to Australia in 1917.
