Nihongun shôhei shokun - ichi Nihongun heishi no tegami [Prisoner's letter - to officers and men of the Japanese Army].
Description
A propaganda leaflet produced by the Far Eastern Liaison Office (FELO) during the Second World War. This leaflet is written in Japanese and was distributed to Torokina. An English translation of the text is attached. It takes the form of a letter written by a Japanese prisoner of war to his comrades in New Guinea. He describes how well he has been treated in hospital in Torokina after being captured by the enemy. He urges his comrades to surrender rather than to choose a useless death. He mentions that, although he was made to believe that a prisoner of war would receive unbearable treatment under the Allied Forces, the way he has been treated is nothing like what he expected. He refers to a few events demonstrating how hospitable enemy soldiers are and expresses his gratitude for their kindness.
