Dai 18 gun kaku butai shikikan kakui [To officers of the 18th Army].
Description
A propaganda leaflet produced by the Far Eastern Liaison Office (FELO) during the Second World War. This leaflet is written in Japanese and was distributed to Aitape Wewak Area. Two copies of the leaflet are included and an English translation is included. The message encourages the unit commanders of the 18th Army to cease resistance immediately so that they and their men will be able to live and contribute to the post-war reconstruction of Japan. It mentions that a group of Japanese soldiers surrendered to the Australian forces near Maprik in May, a group of 23 Japanese men surrendered in early June on Guam,and 8,696 Japanese soldiers ceased fire on 22 June as the Okinawa campaign ended. According to the leaflet, these soldiers decided to surrender so as to prepare for the future of Japan and they have been treated well by their former enemy officers and men.
