Studio portrait of 2123 Private Magnus John Pillar, 33rd Battalion, of Tenterfield, NSW. Son of Mr. T. and Mary Pillar. A farmer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Anchises (A68) on 24 August 1916. He was killed in action on 16 December 1916 in France, aged 26. He is buried in Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery, Armentieres, France.
