Studio portrait of 4448 Private Bede Henry Ireland, 19th Battalion, of Mascot, NSW. Son of Henry and Florence Emily Ireland. A groom prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Nestor (A71) on 9 April 1916. He was killed in action on 14 November 1916 in France, aged 18. He has no known grave, and is remembered with honour on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
