Slouch hat pendant with photograph : Private T Graham, 2/21 Battalion
Small slouch hat pendant made from gilded brass with a circular frame on the underside. This contains a black and white photograph of Private Thomas Graham. Above the rim of the frame is a suspension ring for a neck chain. An incomplete section of gold chain is present.
This pendant was worn by Mrs May Elizabeth Graham, the wife of VX30928 Private Thomas Graham from Ivanhoe, Victoria. An Englishman by birth, he enlisted in the army on 11 June 1940 and left for overseas service on the day of his wedding. He served with 2/21 Battalion and was dispatched to Ambon with Gull Force on 17 December 1941. The following February, during the invasion of the island by the Japanese, Graham was listed as missing. He was presumed dead on 20 February 1942. His widow continued to wear the pendant until her second marriage to Walter Phillips, a veteran of 2/4 Pioneer Battalion.
