Nihongun shôhei shokun [To officers and men of the Japanese Army].

A propaganda leaflet produced by the Far Eastern Liaison Office (FELO) during the Second World War. This leaflet is written in Japanese and was distributed to Port Moresby, Solomon Islands, Bismarck Sea, Lae, Huon Peninsula and Bougainville. An English translation of the text is attached. The leaflet describes a string of failed campaigns conducted by the Japanese Navy from the Battle of the Coral Sea and the Battle of Midway in 1942 to the battle off the Philippines in 1944. The message emphasises the failure of the Japanese Navy to secure the supply lines. It draws attention to the rapid development of the shipbuilding industry in the US and the deployment of the British Navy to Asia, and question whether there is any chance that the situation might improve for the Japanese. The leaflet also includes a map of Southeast Asia and Oceania on the back indicating routes taken by the Allied Forces to reach Leyte and other islands of the Philippines.
