Nihongun shôhei shokun [To officers and men of the Japanese Army].

A propaganda leaflet produced by the Far Eastern Liaison Office (FELO) during the Second World War. This leaflet is written in Japanese and was distributed to Melanesia and the Netherlands East Indies. An English translation of the text is attached. The leaflet reports that the Japanese government sent a sum of money to Japanese prisoners of war kept at prisoner-of-war camps in Australia and interprets the act as a major change of attitude on the part of the Japanese government. The message stresses that Japan will change and both the government and Japanese people will welcome former prisoners of war after the return of peace. It urges Japanese soldiers to surrender so that they can be prepared to work for the reconstruction of Japan. The leaflet also includes three letters from Japanese POWs, which express their gratitude for the care provided by the staff of the Australian Red Cross. The print run is not registered.
