History / Summary
Associated with the service of NX11483 Private Wallace ‘Wal’ William Foster, 2/12 Battalion. Foster, born Sydney on 16 November 1919, enlisted on 28 March 1940 at Paddington, NSW. He fought in the Western Desert (including Tobruk), Milne Bay, Buna, Finisterre Ranges and the Borneo campaign before being discharged on 5 December 1945. Private Foster appears in two Memorial photographs – 016739, showing him in the Finisterre Ranges in March 1944, and 114223, where he is a member of 2/12 Battalion Headquarters in August 1945. This medal was issued by the Polish Government in 1989.
