L5 105 mm Pack Howitzer with shield
Description
L5 105 mm Pack Howitzer with shield. Ammunition obturation. Vertical sliding breech action. Barrel has a multi-baffled brake. Arc and pinion elevating mechanism with worm and wormwheel. Firing mechanism is auto cocked by hand. Percussion firing. Gun has a split folding trail, with a spade end, and is fitted with pneumatic tyres with handbrakes. Gun has a trough cradle with hydro pneumatic recoil. The barrel is balanced by two compression springs. Sighting mechanism consists of a reciprocating rocking bar on left side of the barrel with a direct fire sight mounted on the right hand side.
Trail fitted with black and white Australian Army licence plate, 'AMF 02-113' and adjacent metal plate, 'MOD RECORD' and numbers through to '49'.
