Description

Informal portrait of three members of the 2/26th Battalion in one Comforts Fund singlet. Identified left to right: QX17141 Private Noel Reginald Elliott, QX13946 Lance Corporal Roy Benjamin Taylor and possibly QX1690 Sergeant John 'Dick' Rogers. Elliott, of Napier, NZ, enlisted with the Australian Army on 22 July 1940. He was captured by the Japanese and became a Prisoner Of War (POW) in Malaya. He returned to Australia and was discharged on 16 November 1945. Taylor, of Brisbane, Qld, enlisted on 3 July 1940. He was also captured by the Japanese and died of illness in Siam on 19 September 1943, aged 23. He is buried at Thanbyuzayat War Cemetery, Myanmar. Rogers, of West Maitland, NSW, enlisted on 7 June 1940 and died of illness in Siam on 16 December 1943. He is buried at the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery, Thailand.
