Studio portrait of identical twin brothers, Lieutenant Fairlie Alexander Paterson (left) and Lieutenant Albert Victor Paterson, MM (right). of the 47th Battalion. Both brothers enlisted together at Casula, NSW, on 17 November 1915 as 2070 Private (Pte) Albert Paterson and 2071 Pte Fairlie Paterson. They embarked together from Melbourne, Vic, aboard HMAT Ballarat on 18 February 1916. Albert Paterson was awarded the Military Medal on 25 October 1916 and was commissioned as a second lieutenant on 13 February 1917. Fairlie Paterson was commissioned as a second lieutenant on 28 June 1917. They both returned to Australia on 23 July 1919.
