Patriotic crochet cloth
Description
Piece of patriotic white cotton filet crochet cloth with the word 'VICtORY' worked into the centre in a mixture of upper and lower case letters. The end of the 'Y' is crocheted back along the length of the word, ending with a small flourish under the 'V'. The piece has a plain treble crochet border.
History / Summary
Patterns for patriotic filet crochet were published in women's magazines and newspaper supplements. Australian women used them to make a variety of household items, such as bedspreads, tray cloths and tablecloths. This piece may have been made to celebrate the end of the First World War.
