Small mule-shoe found in Athens : Private W L Minogue, 6 Division
Description
Small rusty mule-shoe with three nail holes on each side and the remains of a front toe clip.
History / Summary
Associated with VX48738 Private William Lindsay Minogue, who served with the 6th Division during the Second World War, and later as a driver with Headquarters 1 Australia Corps. In Athens in 1941 he was forced to take cover in a fowl yard during a German air raid. Lying outstretched, and unscathed when the raid had passed, he discovered the mule-shoe beneath his hand. He kept it as a treasured talisman during the rest of his service in Greece and Crete.
