Description

Boarding party members on HMAS Toowoomba (FFH 156) load weapons with live rounds prior to taking to the water in Rigid-Hulled Inflatable Boats (RHIBs). Identified, from left: Leading Seaman Boatswain's Mate Shannon Schonewille; Leading Seaman Electronics Technician (LSET) Ian Wright; LSET Byron Evans. This image taken at the start of a boarding as part of Operation Catalyst. The RHIB is proceeding alongside to enable embarkation. This boarding party was named "Warrior", which, along with the offwatch team, "Force", were named after Western Australian sporting teams.
Australia's role in Iraq was to help the people of Iraq rebuild and rehabilitate their country. As such, numerous boardings were conducted to ensure that tankers berthing at the Oil Terminals were as low a risk as practicable. Oil exportation was the biggest source of income for Iraq. Regular boardings were also conducted on the local dhows, to appraise them of the current state of affairs to enable them to continue their way of life.
