Description
A derelict Japanese fighter, a Mitsubishi A6M2 Zero at Gasmata air strip, New Britain. A relic from the Second Word War, it is representative of many hulks which are occasionally discovered long after hostilities were concluded in 1945. It was recovered by the RAAF and, after extensive restoration, presented to the Australian War Memorial in 1990 where it is now held in the aircraft collection.
