Vietnamese Rangers Infantry Battalion baseball cap : Captain J Scales, AATTV
Orange cotton baseball-style cap with a machine embroidered cloth patch sewn onto the front of the crown. The cap cannot be adjusted for size, but has an elasticised strip at the back of the crown. The cloth patch features a yellow shield with a black border on which is a black panther's head over a white five-pointed star with a red border.
Associated with the service of Captain J Scales, AATV. Captain John Scales did two tours of service with the Australian Army in South Vietnam. The first, 1965-1966, with the Australian Army Training Team, Vietnam (AATTV) and the second, 1970-1971, with 1 Armoured Regiment and 3 Cavalry Regiment. The cap features a cloth patch with a black panther's head over a white five-pointed star with a red border. This was the emblem of the Vietnamese Ranger Infantry Battalion.
