From left: the graves of 47425 Private (Pte) Albert Joseph Halgarth, 2nd Battalion, Wellington Infantry Regiment; 3334 Pte Leslie James Welsh, 32nd Battalion; 4568 Pte Clarence Hurtle McGuinness, 32nd Battalion. Pte Welsh, a miner from Adelaide, SA prior to enlistment, embarked with the 7th Reinforcements from Adelaide on HMAT Malakuta on 27 June 1916. On 28 September 1917 whilst on detachment to the 25th Machine Gun Company, he was killed in action aged 23. Pte McGuinness, a fisherman from Finniss, SA prior to enlistment, embarked with the 12th Reinforcements from Adelaide on HMAT Berrima on 16 December 1916. On 28 September, also whilst on detachment to the 25th Machine Gun Company, he was killed in action aged 25. The remains of all three men were later exhumed and re-interred in the Hooge Crater Cemetery, Belgium.
