From left: the graves of 2647 Private (Pte) Richmond Boyd Graham, 29th Battalion and 2447 Pte John Patrick Saunders, 30th Battalion. Pte Graham, a clerk from Sandringham, Vic prior to enlistment, embarked with the 5th Reinforcements from Melbourne on HMAT Anchises on 14 March 1916. On 26 September 1917, whilst on detachment to the 25th Machine Gun Company, he was killed in action, aged 22. Pte Saunders, a labourer from Marrickville, NSW prior to enlistment, embarked with the 4th Reinforcements from Sydney on HMAT Orsova on 11 March 1916. On 25 September 1917, also whilst on detachment to the 25th Machine Gun Company, he was killed in action aged 22. The remains of both men were later exhumed and re-interred in the Hooge Crater Cemetery, Belgium.
