Description
The view from the cockpit of 409954 Flying Officer Neil Reginald Smith's Beaufighter of 455 Squadron (Sqn), RAAF, as he commences a rocket and strafing attack on German shipping anchored close to shore in the Orsta Fjord. Led by 402880 Squadron Leader John Milton Pilcher (DFC and Bar), thirteen 455 Sqn Beaufighters plus five more from 489 Sqn, RZNAF, conducted the strike which resulted in the sinking of the German merchant ships Radbod and Albert Janus. Two Beafighters were lost during the operation with one crew killed and the other crew rescued.
