Description

Bert Jones as a member of the 2/21 Battalion, which later became Gull Force (with some input from Russell Lavery, also of the 2/21.) Bert talks about his three years as a POW in Ambon, describing stealing and hiding food from Japanese, and the lack of sharing between officers and men; catching goats, cats and dogs for food; a punishment "cage" constructed by the CO of the camp for incarcerating men who broke any Japanese rules. Both Lavery and Jones tell how a friend of theirs was beaten by the camp CO and the Japanese for stealing a pig and afterwards died of his injuries.
