Collection relating to the Second World War service of NX78138 Private Leonard Alfred Donnellan, 54 Australian Transport Platoon, Second Australian Imperial Force, Bougainville and Australia, 1941-1945.

Wallet 1 of 1 – Contains two folders of material relating to Private Leonard Alfred Donnellan.

Folder 1 of 2 consists of two letters from Private Donnellan to his parents, Mr Michael Alfred Donnellan and Mrs Amy Donnellan. His letters, dated 3 and 10 November 1945, were written while Private Donnellan was serving with 54 Australian Transport Platoon in Bougainville. In his letters, Private Donnellan writes about wanting to travel home, buying well-priced cigarettes, playing sports in leisure time, and daily routine. He also requests news from home.

Folder 2 of 2 consists of one Identity Card, one Record of Service Book, and one Demobilisation Procedure Book relating to Private Donnellan and his wife, Mrs Ella May Donnellan (née Mclean). The Identity Card was issued to Mrs Donnellan in May 1942, and updated in February 1944, after her marriage. The Record of Service Book, issued to Private Donnellan, records details such as physical appearance, issues of clothing and equipment, leave, honours and awards, vaccination, and next of kin.
