The Red Cross of comfort
Description
In the upper portion of the work is a nurse attending to an injured soldier who appears to have a head wound. The lower portion of the work is a sketch of a Red Cross package that the inmates at Oflag 7B camp were entitled to received. These parcels contained food and other comforts for the soldiers incarcerated in POW camps. Thus, inmates were able to supplement the basic rations that they received from the Germans and were frequently better fed than their guards. In 1942 a Red Cross representative visited the camp and found the conditions satisfactory.
