Two surgeons, Dr Tom Hugh (left) and Dr Bob Perrett operating on a patient, assisted by a nurse and an anaesthetist, at Le Loi Hospital. They are all members of an Australian civilian surgical team. More than 450 civilian medical and surgical staff volunteered to work in hospitals in Vietnam to instruct and teach Vietnamese medical and paramedical personnel and provide medical aid to anyone who required it. From the collection of Dr Tom Hugh, a member of the Prince Henry and Prince of Wales hospital team.
