Description

Outdoor portrait of Corporal Allan Montrose MacDiarmid, NSW Volunteer Infantry Regiment, Scottish Rifles, who later served in the First World War. An accountant prior to enlistment, 1803 Acting Sergeant (Sgt) Allan Montrose MacDiarmid of Croydon, NSW, embarked with the 2nd Reinforcements, 30th Battalion, from Sydney on HMAT Berrima (A35) on 17 December 1915. He later transferred to the 45th Battalion reaching the rank of Lieutenant (Lt). On 5 April 1918 Lt MacDiarmid was killed in action in France, aged 27.
