Studio portrait of 1717 Private Augustus Herbert Francis, 16th Battalion of Unley, SA. Son of John and Margaret Francis of Carlton, Sydney, NSW. A linesman prior to enlisting, he embarked from Adelaide aboard HMAT Port Lincoln (A17) on 1 April 1915. He was killed in action on 12 August 1916 in France, aged 29. He has no known grave, and is remembered with honour on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
