Studio portrait of 3480A Private Timothy Joseph Carey 17th (later 53rd) Battalion of Macleay River, NSW. Son of Patrick and Bridget Carey. A labourer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Aeneas (A60) on 20 December 1915. He was killed in action on 19 July 1916 at Fleurbaix, France, aged 27. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the VC Corner Australian Cemetery Memorial, Fromelles, France. He is the brother of 3481A Private John Stephen Carey who was killed on the same day.
