Studio portrait of 3115 Private Valentine O'Shannessy 26th (later 48th) Battalion of Clermont, Qld. Brother of J T O'Shannessy, Collarenabri, NSW. A labourer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Brisbane aboard HMAT Itonus (A50) on 30 December 1915. He was killed in action on 6 August 1916 at Pozieres, France, aged 27. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Villers Bretonneux Memorial, France.
