Studio portrait of 3726 Private (later Lance Corporal) Arthur Thomas Cairns, 13th Battalion, of Dulwich Hill, NSW. Son of John Gray Cairns and Bridget Agnes Cairns. A fireman prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Suevic (A29) on 20 December 1915. He was killed in action near Mouque Farm, Pozieres in France, on 15 August 1916, aged 22. He is buried in Serre Road Cemetery No 2, France.
