Studio portrait of 3530 Private John Robert Griffiths, 19th (later 2nd) Battalion, of Sydney, NSW (originally of Bournemouth, England). Son of John Robert and Hannah Griffiths, London, England. A labourer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Berrima (A35) on 12 December 1915. He was killed in action at Pozieres in France, on 20 July 1916, aged 22. He was buried at Chalkpit south of Pozieres but post war his grave was not found. He is remembered with honour on the Villers Bretonneux Memorial, France.
