Studio portrait of 2571 Private (later Lance Corporal) George Crowther, 15th Battalion, of Brisbane, Qld. Son of Mrs Eliza Crowther of Rhodes, Manchester, England. A farmer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Brisbane aboard HMAT Kyarra (A55) on 16 August 1915. He died on 24 September 1916 at the No 3 Canadian General Hospital, Boulogne, France, of wounds received in action on 2 September 1916, aged 30. He is buried in the Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, France.
