SINGLETON, NSW. 1943-01. CLOSE UP OF AN AMERICAN TYPE PISTOL FOR FIRING SMOKESCREEN SHELLS FROM THE INSIDE OF A TANK, IS HELD BY VX3361 CAPTAIN J. MCNALLY, GSO III (CW) 2ND AUSTRALIAN ARMY. IN THE PHOTOGRAPH IT IS SEEN "BROKEN" READY FOR LOADING. THE BARREL, IN THE HOLDER'S RIGHT HAND, IS THE ONLY PORTION NOT INSIDE THE TANK. THE BOLT HOLES TO FIX THE PISTOL TO THE ARMOUR OF THE TANK MAY BE SEEN AT THE END OF THE BARREL.
