Studio portrait of 407025 Flying Officer (FO) Herbert Nicholas Leonard (Nick) Bertram, RAAF. FO Bertram and his crew safely survived a ditching in the sea when their Vickers Wellington bomber from No. 458 Squadron went down whilst carrying out operations against enemy shipping in waters around Sicily. At this time No. 458 Squadron was based in Malta. FO Bertram was rescued along with the other members of his crew by the ship "SS Destro" on 27 February 1943.
