Collection of 1328 Private Richard Goldsmith Hummerston, 10th Light Horse Regiment and 3rd Light Horse Brigade Machine Gun Section.
Outdoor portrait of 52 Trooper Leonard (Len) Hall, 10th Light Horse Regiment from Ungariu, Western Australia on lookout duty at Mazar. A 19 year old horse-driver with previous service in the Militia with the 13th Engineers, he enlisted in the AIF on 19 October 1914 and embarked for overseas as a Driver with the Machine Gun Section from Fremantle, Western Australia on 8 February 1915 aboard HMAT Mashobra (A47). After serving at Gallipoli, he continued to serve in the Middle East where in November 1916, he reverted to the rank of Trooper at his own request. After being wounded in action at Beersheba on 31 October 1917, he received medical treatment and returned to service two months later. He was appointed a Lance Corporal on 1 September 1918 and later returned to Australia, arriving on 22 February 1919.
