Studio portrait of 876 Private (Pte) Edgar Smith, 36th Battalion. A school teacher prior to his enlistment on 5 February 1916, Pte Smith embarked from Sydney on 13 May 1916 on board HMAT Beltana (A72). He died of wounds received in action at the First Battle for Passchendaele on 15 October 1917, aged 20.
