Description

The crew of a Black Hawk helicopter, A25-222 'Sabre', conducting snow landing training at 9800ft in the Kagan Valley, 130 km North East of Islamabad in the Himalayas, in preparation for humanitarian duties during Operation Pakistan Assist. Following the earthquake of October 2005 in Pakistan, an Australian Defence Force medical team was deployed to Pakistan to provide vital health care assistance to those affected. This deployment also included an Australian Army Black Hawk helicopter detachment from the 5th Aviation Regiment, based in Townsville. The detachment enabled medical assistance to remote regional villages in rugged terrain with limited road access, using both land and air drop means. Identified, left to right, are a Loadmaster, Corporal Rod 'Hendo' Henderson (in front of helicopter); the Co-pilot, Captain John 'JW' Walker; and the Aircraft Captain, Anthony 'Squid' Norton. The photographer, Sergeant Shane 'Reidy' Reid, was also Loadmaster.
