Studio portrait of 4099 Private (Pte) John Henry Currey, 3rd Battalion (later 1st Pioneer Battalion), of North Sydney, NSW. A tin canister maker prior to enlistment, he embarked with the 12th Reinforcements on 30 December 1915 aboard HMAT Medic. He was killed in action on 4 October 1917, aged 24 years. He has no known grave and his name is recorded on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.
