Studio portrait of 4270 (later 4270A) Private (Pte) Roderick McAulay, 1st Battalion, of Waverley, NSW. A carpenter prior to enlistment, Pte McAulay, embarked from Sydney with his brother, 4391 Pte Hector McAulay, on HMAT Aeneas with the 13th Reinforcements on 20 December 1915. After transferring to the 54th Battalion in Egypt, the brothers were both killed in action on 19 July 1916 in France, Pte Roderick McAulay aged 35, and Pte Hector McAulay, 29.
