Studio portrait of 413065 Sergeant (Sgt) George Bisgood Wootten RAAF, attached to 14 Squadron RAF. An industrial chemist in civilian life from Mosman, NSW, he was the eldest son of Major General George Frederick Wootten, CBE, DSO. Sgt Wootten was accidentally killed when his Marauder aircraft crashed during a training flight near Abu Sueir Aerdrome in Egypt on 10 May 1943. Five other crew members were also killed in the accident.
