History / Summary
The Gaunt family was a British badge and button producing company that had been in operation from 1767. In 1884 they were registered in Birmingham. During the First World War most of the other ranks buttons of the British Army were made by J R Gaunt and Son. It is thought this die was bought from the J R Gaunt factory in Montreal, Canada. It is believed that this was a master die used to produce other stamping dies.
