The first three United Nations Military Observers (UNMOs) to arrive at the Kantara (Qantara) ...
Description
The first three United Nations Military Observers (UNMOs) to arrive at the Kantara (Qantara) Control Centre on 15 July 1967. Identified from left to right: Captain J P Lauwers (Belgium); Major Roy Skinner (Australia); and Captain Al Vitello (Italy). The Kantara Control Centre was established by the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) after the Six Day War to observe and report breaches of the ceasefire between Egyptian and Israeli forces. Under the command of Australian observer Major Roy Skinner, Kantara was the headquarters for UNMOs on the east side of the Suez Canal. Seen clearly in the background is Kantara west.
