Description
A German Messerschmitt Bf 109E-4 fighter aircraft in service with I. Gruppe, Jagderschwader 2 (I./JG2) (Richthofen squadron) at Beaumont-le-Roger in France in 1940. The photo came from a German camera acquired by Corporal John Sheppard, MM, whilst he was serving in the Middle East with the 2/15th Battalion. Note the squadron markings of a stylised 'R' on underneath the cockpit, the yellow nose, and the brush stippled camouflage along the fuselage, all specific to Jagderschwader 2 during the Battle of Britain in 1940.
