Description

Informal portrait of 4717546 Private (Pte) Errol Wayne Noack (right), B Company, 5th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment (5RAR) of Adelaide, with his father Walter Noack (left), and an unidentified friend from Port Lincoln. They are visiting Windy Point Lookout (probably at Belair), during Pte Noack's second to last leave before embarking for service in Vietnam. Pte Noack was conscripted into the army and was the first Australian national serviceman to be killed in action during the Vietnam War. Pte Noack was shot during Operation Hardihood on 24 May 1966, after only ten days service in Vietnam.
